DFM Performance – October, 2017

The Dubai Financial Market General Index increased by 2.0% to 3635.87 points at the end of October compared to 3563.99 points at the end of September. At the sectorial level, indexes of eight sectors out of nine sectors represented on DFM ended the month in green with the Investment & Financial Services sector index increased the most by 10.5%, followed by the Transportation sector index by 6.1%, and the Insurance sector index by 5.4%, then the Services sector index by 3.4%. On the other hand, the Consumer Staples and Discretionary sector index decreased by 2.5%.

The market capitalization decreased at the end of this month by 0.1% to reach AED 379.9 billion compared to AED 380.4 billion at the end of September. The value of shares traded increased by 156.6% reaching this month AED 10 billion, compared to AED 3.9 billion recorded during September. The number of shares traded increased by 177.4% to reach 7.3 billion shares during this month compared to 2.6 billion shares traded during September. The number of transactions executed during October increased by 128.4% to reach 99.3 thousand compared to 43.5 thousand deals carried out during the previous month.

As for the sectors’ contribution to trading volumes, the Real Estate & Construction sector ranked first in terms of the traded value, to reach AED 4.9 billion, or 48.9% of the total traded value in the market. Banks sector ranked second at AED 2.1 billion or 20.7%, followed by the Investment & Financial Services sector with approximately AED 1.1 billion or 11.0%. The Transportation sector with AED 644 million or 6.5%, the Insurance sector with 588.1 million or 5.9%, the Services sector with AED 284.9 million or 2.9%, followed by the Consumer Staples and Discretionary sector with AED 217.7 million or 2.2%, and the Telecommunication sector with AED 190.6 million or 1.9%, and last is the Industrials sector with AED 372.4 thousand.

The value of stocks bought by foreign investors during this month reached AED 3.89 billion comprising 39.0% of the total traded value. The value of stocks sold by foreign investors during the same period reached AED 3.94 billion comprising 39.6% of the total value traded. Accordingly, DFM net foreign investment out-flow reached AED 53.1 million.

On the other hand, the value of stocks bought by institutional investors during this month reached AED 3.38 billion comprising 34.0% of the total traded value. The value of stocks sold by institutional investors during the same period reached AED 3.19 billion which constitutes 32.0% of the total value traded. DFM net institutional investment in-flow amounted AED 191.3 million.
