Deutsche Börse: Number Of Trades On Xetra Up 89 Percent In October - Orderbook Turnover Up 25 Percent - Total Volume Of €293.4 Billion Traded On All Stock Exchanges In Germany

In October 2008, the number of trades executed on Xetra® reached 30.2 million transactions – up 89 percent compared to October 2007 with 16.0 million trades. Order book turnover on Xetra recorded €255.1 billion, up by 25 percent (October 2007: €203.9 billion). On Xetra and the Frankfurt floor €250.7 billion were turned over in German equities and €14.5 billion in foreign shares. Roughly 97 percent of the transaction volume with German equities and more than 86 percent of foreign equities were traded on Xetra and on the floor at Börse Frankfurt.

Volkswagen AG was the strongest DAX stock on Xetra in October at €45.8 billion. Salzgitter AG was the top MDAX stock at €1.4 billion while Medion AG led the SDAX® stock at €88.3 million and Q-Cells SE headed the TecDAX® at €1.7 billion. At €3.6 billion, the iShares DAX was the exchange-traded fund with the largest turnover.

On all stock exchanges in Germany €293.4 billion were traded in October according to order book turnover statistics – an increase by 23 percent compared year-on-year (October 2007: €239.2 billion). This total included €280.9 billion in equities, warrants and exchange-traded funds, as well as €12.5 billion in fixed-income securities. The number of trades at all exchanges added up to 46.1 million (October 2007: 29.2 million) which is an increase by 58 percent.
