Deutsche Börse Expands Mutual Fund Segment - Around 500 New Funds Tradable On The Frankfurt Stock Exchange/Private Investors Particularly Active In Frankfurt

Date 31/10/2006

Deutsche Börse has expanded trading in mutual funds on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange: around 500 new funds have been added over the past week, bringing the total number of funds up to around 3,100. The trading volume on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange has also continued to rise: just over five months after the launch of the segment, Frankfurt has increased the segment’s market share from around 18 percent to approximately 26.5 percent and has seen it generate the highest turnover on a weekly basis.

The number of transactions has also increased substantially by around 15 percent to the current level of over 1,000 transactions a day. The average order volume in Frankfurt stands at around €9,000 and shows that private investors are the dominant players on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. They can trade in a broad range of funds without incurring a front-end load. Trading takes place from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Intermediaries ensure continuous trading in real time with minimum quotation volumes and maximum spreads, guaranteeing liquid trading at the lowest possible transaction costs and with the greatest degree of transparency for investors.

Deutsche Börse has been active in exchange trading of funds since the launch of the XTF segment for exchange-traded index funds in April 2000. Since then it has developed into Europe’s leading marketplace for Exchange Traded Funds. 151 index funds are currently traded in XTF, and assets under management reached a new record of €41.1 billion at the end of September 2006. Deutsche Börse launched mutual fund trading with around 2,600 funds in the Frankfurt Stock Exchange’s Open Market on 19 May. Exchange trading with mutual funds opens up an additional distribution channel for fund issuers and a new business area for intermediaries admitted to the stock exchange.

Deutsche Börse has systematically expanded its offering for private investors in recent years and established itself as the reference market. The Frankfurt Stock Exchange provides a broad range of products for private investors: 7,000 German and international equities, over 50,000 certificates and reverse convertibles, more than 60,000 warrants, 8,600 German and foreign government and corporate bonds, and around 3,100 actively and passively managed funds, including ETFs.
