Deutsche Boerse: Nikkei 225 And GS Ultra-Light Energy ETFs Launched In XTF Segment - First Nikkei 225 ETF Available Outside Japan - Further Expansion Of Commodity Coverage With First GS Ultra-Light Energy ETF

Date 11/07/2006

Deutsche Boerse is further expanding its XTF segment for exchange-traded funds on the Xetra pan-European trading platform. On Tuesday, 11 July, two new ETFs were issued that enable investors to increase portfolio exposure to Japan and commodities.

The Nikkei 225 EX ETF (ISIN: DE000A0H08D2) is issued by Indexchange Investment AG and allows retail and institutional investors to track the Nikkei 225. The Nikkei 225 index reflects the overall performance of the Japanese economy with the specific goal of representing Japan’s industrial structure by including the most liquid equities from the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange. Deutsche Börse is the first exchange outside Japan to offer trading in a Nikkei 225 ETF.

The EasyETF GS Ultra-Light Energy (LU0246046329) is issued by AXA Investment Managers and BNP Paribas and is the world’s first ETF to track the Goldman Sachs Ultra-Light Energy Total Return Index. The Goldman Sachs Ultra-Light Energy Total Return Index is a sub-index of the Goldman Sachs Commodity Index - GSCI®- and includes 24 commodities across five different sectors: Industrial and Precious Metals (25.56%), Agriculture (29.30%), Livestock (12.89%) and Energy (26.49%). This provides an opportunity for European investors to gain exposure to a broad based commodity index with a reduced weight on energy. The EasyETF GS Ultra-Light Energy compliments the existing commodity based ETFs from the GSCI and GSNE indices, and the Jim Rogers International Commodity Index.

In the second quarter of 2006, XTF generated with €21.2 billion the highest quarterly turnover ever since the segment’s introduction. This represents an increase of 86 percent year-on-year (Q2 2005: €11.4 bn). A total of 131 index funds are now listed in the segment, with 54 new products added since the beginning of 2006. At the end of May 2006, assets under management increased by 81 percent year-on-year to a record level of €36.8 billion (May 2005: €20.3 bn). Deutsche Börse’s XTF segment is the leading marketplace for exchange-traded funds in Europe. It offers the largest number of listed ETFs across Europe and accounts for approximately 50 percent of European trading volume in exchange-traded funds.
