Deutsche Börse Cash Market: 500 Billion Euro in Sight

A total volume of 498 billion Euro was traded in equities, warrants and fixed-income securities on the German securities exchanges in January, 14 percent higher than the volume traded in January 1998 (437 billion Euro). Equities turnover came to 237.8 billion Euro, 47 percent higher than in January 1998. Bond turnover, at 254.4 billion Euro, was down slightly from the January 1998 figure (269.1 billion Euro). The order-book statistics of Deutsche Börse, which are based on single counting of all transactions posted in the order book of Xetra® and the trading floor, shows a volume of 70 billion Euro traded in equities in January, a 43 percent increase compared with the turnover amounting to 48.9 billion Euro in December 1998. Trading in the DAX blue chips accounted for 76 percent of the total. Over 60 percent of the January order-book turnover in equities were posted in Xetra® (45 billion Euro), and another 23 percent on the trading floor of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange (16 billion Euro). The Xetra® share of the volume traded in the DAX blue chips is almost 76 percent.
