In August €266.1 billion were turned over on Xetra and on the floor of Börse Frankfurt – a rise of 109 percent year-on-year (August 2006: €127.2 billion). Thereof €251.5 billion were traded on Xetra gaining 113 percent year-on-year (August 2006: €117.6 billion) and €14.6 billion on the floor (August 2006: €9.5 billion). German equities accounted for €248.5 billion, foreign equities comprising €13.5 billion. More than 97 percent of the transaction volume with German equities was executed at Börse Frankfurt. More than 83 percent of foreign equities were traded on Xetra and on the floor.
In the entire month 19 million transactions were executed on Xetra, a rise of 126 percent year-on-year (August 2006: 8.5 million).
According to the Xetra liquidity measure (XLM), Allianz SE was the most liquid DAX® blue chip in July with 5 basis points (bp) for an order volume of €100,000. Beiersdorf AG was the most liquid MDAX® stock with 21 bp. The most liquid equity-based ETF was the db-x-trackers II EONIA Total Return with 1 bp. The most liquid foreign stock was ABN Amro with 12 bp. XLM measures liquidity in electronic securities trading on the basis of the implicit transaction costs. It is expressed in basis points (1 bp = 0.01 percent); a low XLM denotes high liquidity in a security.
Deutsche Bank AG was the strongest DAX® stock on Xetra in August at €20.8 billion. Depfa Bank PLC was the top MDAX® stock at €2.1 billion while Air Berlin AG led the SDAX® stock at €367.5 million and Solarworld AG headed the TecDAX® at €1 billion. At €3.7 billion, the DAX EX was once again the exchange-traded fund with the largest turnover.
On all stock exchanges in Germany €288 billion were traded in August according to orderbook turnover statistics – a rise of 103 percent compared year-on-year (August 2006: €141.4 billion). This total included €279.9 billion in equities, warrants and exchange-traded funds, as well as €8.1 billion in fixed-income securities.
