D-Cyphatrade Announces Exchange-Traded Electricity Options For The Australian Electricity Market

Date 02/09/2003

d-cyphaTrade has announced the listing of 'Options' on the d-cypha SFE Australian Electricity Futures contracts. The new electricity options will be listed on the Sydney Futures Exchange with a phase one launch date currently scheduled for Quarter 4 this year.

The full compliment of the proposed Options offering is intended to cater for all but the most exotic option types currently traded in the over-the-counter (OTC) Australian electricity market. The offer will include swaptions, caps and Asian options. Full details of the proposed offering will be made available to market participants over the coming weeks. Dr Ralph Craven, Chairman of d-cypha Limited and CEO of Transpower NZ said, "Consistent with d-cyphaTrade's commitment to developing the electricity market and encouraged by the success of the Electricity Futures Contracts, d-cyphaTrade is now well-positioned to successfully deliverOptions to the Australian market."

Catherine Sutin of d-cyphaTrade, says "The Australian energy derivatives markets have developed significantly in the past year in a number of respects. Exchange-traded options will further enhance that development process by alleviating many of the credit issues currently prevalent in the OTC Options market". "We are confident that the addition of exchange-traded options will encourage large energy end-users to adopt electricity financial instruments into their overall risk management strategies."

As d-cyphaTrade celebrates its first year of operation, the business is able to demonstrate a number of key achievements and milestones that together indicate improving liquidity within the Australian energy markets.

Peter Hiom, SFE General Manager - Strategy and Business Development, says "the listing of electricity options is a testament to the strength of the relationship between SFE and d-cyphaTrade and the success of electricity futures to date".
