Dame Paula Rebstock To Join NZX Board

Date 01/02/2023

NZX is pleased to announce the appointment of Dame Paula Rebstock as an independent director to the Board of NZX Limited.

Dame Paula’s appointment takes effect from today. She is a leading Auckland-based economist and company director, who was made a Dame Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2015 for services to the State. Dame Paula holds a Master’s of Science Degree in Economics from the London School of Economics.

Dame Paula has extensive professional experience in corporate and public services governance. She is Deputy Chair of NZX-listed Vector, and also serves on unlisted entities including AIA Sovereign Insurance New Zealand, Auckland One Rail, Chair of Asia Pacific Healthcare Group, Chair of Kiwi Group Holdings, and Sealink New Zealand among others.

Dame Paula is a former Chair of the New Zealand Commerce Commission, and the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC); was a Deputy Chair of KiwiRail, and a Director of Auckland Transport. Her appointment to the NZX Board is for an initial term of three years, subject to the appointment being approved by shareholders at the March NZX Annual Shareholders Meeting.

NZX Board Chair James Miller says he is delighted someone of the calibre and experience of Dame Paula is joining the NZX Board.

“Our skills matrix indicated we needed to bolster our board with an experienced director with a strong passion for listed markets, understanding of government and regulation, and funds management governance experience. Dame Paula has all these skills in spades,” Mr Miller says.

“Dame Paula will also bring her considerable experience and expertise to the Clearing, Nominations and Human Resources and Renumeration committees.

“Significantly, with the appointment of Dame Paula and other board changes announced last year, the proportion of female and male representation on the NZX Limited Board is now 50:50 for the first time in NZX’s 157-year history.”

Dame Paula says she is excited to join the NZX Board.

“Throughout my career I’ve had a genuine interest in capital markets and the important role they play. In joining the NZX Board, I want to contribute to NZX’s strategy of helping grow capital markets and New Zealand’s productivity,” Dame Paula says.
