Total trading volume at the Dalian Commodity Exchange, China's leading agricultural and plastics exchange, for the month of November was 143,879,488 contracts, an increase of 88.59% compared to November 2009. Average daily volume for this period was 6.54 million contracts. Trading turnover totaled CNY 7.433 trillion, an increase of 126.23% over November 2009. Trading volume for the first 11 months of the year totaled 743,287,420 contracts, an increase of 1.86% over the same period last year.
With the exception of PVC, trading volumes in DCE contracts rose significantly year-on-year in November, especially corn whose trading volume jumped over 900% over last year: agricultural commodity volume averaged 5.55 million contracts per day, accounting for 85% of trading volume. Average plastics volume was 990,941 contracts per day, accounting for 15% of trading volume.
Open interest for all DCE products at the end of September was 3,232,300 contracts, a decrease of 30.59% compared to last month.
According to statistics from the China Futures Association, total November trading volume in China's futures market was 424.24 million contracts, an increase of 79.54% over November 2009 and 48.38% over last month. Total trading turnover was CNY 44.268 trillion, an increase of 224.71% over November 2009 and 48.3% over last month.
