August 2009, though it represented a marked increase over last month's trading. Average daily volume for this period was 4.40 million contracts. Trading turnover totaled CNY 5.156 trillion, an increase of 8.93% over August 2009.
Trading in agricultural commodities rose sharply in August: agricultural commodity volume averaged 3.64 million contracts per day, accounting for 83% of trading volume. Average plastics volume was down slightly at 753,711 contracts per day, accounting for 17% of trading volume.
Open interest for all DCE products at the end of August was 3,441,106 contracts, an increase of 10.12% over last month.
According to data from the China Futures Industry Association, total nationwide trading volume for August reached 314,140,150 contracts worth CNY 33.03 trillion, increases of 22.16% and 102.79% respectively compared to August 2009.
