In the course of trading on the MICEX Stock Exchange, held 21 December 2006, the total value of transactions in securities amounted to 153.06 bln rubles (5.83 bln dollars). Transactions made in the main trading mode accounted for 47.3 bln rubles, transactions made in the negotiated deals mode accounted for 31.1 bln rubles, repos accounted for 63.5 bln rubles and placements accounted for 11.1 bln rubles. The total value of transactions in shares (without repos) amounted to 60.7 bln rubles, transactions in bonds (without repos or placements) accounted for 17.6 bln rubles, equity repos accounted for 37.6 bln rubles and bond repos accounted for 25.9 bln rubles. This is a record-high figure of daily turnover over the whole history of trading in the MICEX Group’s stock market, launched in March 1997.
The previous record figure of 150.16 bln rubles was registered on 5 December 2006. On 21 December, the MICEX Index, which reflects the behavior of prices on the Russian securities market, exceeded the previous day’s value by 0.3% and reached 1 629.82 points at the close (growth of the MICEX Index over the end of 2005: 61.2%). Over 170 thousand transactions were made in the course of trading on 21 December 2006.
