As a result of trading held on the MICEX Stock Exchange on 26 July 2007, the volume of transactions in securities amounted to 226.59 billion rubles (8.92 billion US dollars). The main trading mode accounted for 85.12 billion rubles, the negotiated deals mode accounted for 18.88 billion rubles, repos accounted for 114.59 billion rubles, while placements accounted for 8.0 billion rubles. The volume of transactions in stocks (without repos) amounted to 89.54 billion rubles, the volume of transactions in bonds (without repos or placements) amounted to 14.37 billion rubles, the volume of equity repos amounted to 72.86 billion rubles and the volume of bond repos amounted to 41.73 billion rubles. This is a record-high daily turnover for the whole history of trading on the MICEX Group’s stock market, which was launched in March 1997.
The previous record of 223.83 billion rubles was registered on 15 June 2007.
The MICEX Index, which reflects the movements of prices on the Russian securities market, reached 1724.28 points at the close on 26 July, 3.2% down on the end of the previous day (the MICEX Index grew 1.8% against the end of 2006).
Over 232 thousand transactions were concluded in the course of trading on 26 July 2007.
Background
The MICEX Stock Exchange is Russia’s largest floor. It organizes daily trading in stocks and bonds of about 550 Russian issuers, including Gazprom, LUKoil, Surgutneftergaz, Sberbank, RAO UES, Norilsk Nickel, MTS, Tatneft and other companies. The total number of organizations – participants in trading on the MICEX Stock Exchange is 619. Of them, 509 (290 credit and 219 non-credit organizations) are admitted to trading. In the first six months of 2007 the total volume of trading on the MICEX Stock Exchange amounted to 17 842.43 billion rubles (684.93 billion dollars), which exceeds 2.2 times the volume of trading in securities for the same period of 2006 (8 273.71 billion rubles).
