Cory Strupp Joins SIFMA’s Lobbying Team

Date 22/09/2008

The Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA) today announced the addition of Cory Strupp to SIFMA’s legislative affairs team as managing director. Strupp will work across the many issues in SIFMA’s portfolio and report to Michael Paese, SIFMA’s executive vice president of global advocacy.

“Given his decades working in Washington on the industry’s highest priorities and the increasingly-challenging legislative environment, I am delighted that Cory has agreed to join SIFMA’s advocacy team. Cory’s extensive experience in financial services will be an important resource to our members, especially as our legislative and regulatory agenda has accelerated in recent weeks," said Paese.

Strupp served from 2004 to 2006 as the Deputy Director and General Counsel for the Bankers Association for Finance and Trade, an affiliate of the American Bankers Association. From 1984 until 2003, he served at JP Morgan where he started in the in-house legal department before becoming head of government relations in 1987. Among other initiatives, he was the firm’s lead on Glass-Steagall reform, culminating in the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act in 1999.

He began his career at the New York law firm of Winthrop, Stimson, Putnam & Roberts, a predecessor firm to Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP.
