E-mini Nasdaq 100 index futures contracts set a new all-time record of 883,176 in August, while E-mini S&P 500 Index futures reached a new high for any August of 1,438,965. For the third month this year, E-mini S&P 500 futures were the second mostly actively traded contract on the exchange.
Also among equity index products, standard sized Nasdaq 100 futures set a new August record of 310,549, along with Russell 2000 futures at 28,023, and S&P/BARRA Value Index futures at 1,243. Additionally, Nasdaq 100 and Russell 2000 options set new August records of 54,138 and 897, respectively.
E-mini Euro FX futures set an all-time high mark of 5,599.
For the month of August, GLOBEX2 volume totaled 2,625,845, a 75.2 percent increase over August 1999. Open interest, or the number of contracts outstanding at the close of trading, stood at 8,198,682 at month’s end.
