Clearstream’s Business Activity For December And The Year 2006 - Clearstream Experienced Good Growth Levels Both In December And For The Whole Year 2006

In December 2.03 million international transactions were processed, a 12 percent rise over December 2005 (1.81 million). Of these transactions, 77 percent were Over the Counter (OTC) transactions and 23 percent were registered as stock exchange transactions. For the whole year, Clearstream processed 24.51 million international transactions, 20 percent more than in 2005.

In December, domestic settlement transactions for the German market reached 2.91 million compared to 2.96 million for the same month last year. Of these transactions 65 percent were stock exchange transactions and 35 percent OTC transactions. In 2006, Clearstream processed 38.45 million domestic settlement transactions compared to 33.48 million in 2005, a 15 percent increase.

The value of assets under custody on behalf of customers rose to € 9.70 trillion in December, an 11 percent rise from the same month in 2005 (€ 8.75 trillion) with the growth evenly split between securities held under custody in Clearstream’s international business rising from € 3.94 to € 4.37 trillion and domestic German securities held under custody rising from € 4.82 trillion to € 5.33 trillion.

In 2006 Clearstream added three new markets to its international network, Croatia, Turkey and Russia. Also since November, Clearstream is the only ICSD to offer settlement services for Japanese Government Bonds.

For the Global Securities Financing services monthly average outstandings in December reached a record high at € 301.2 billion. The combined services, which include triparty repo, securities lending and collateral management, collectively experienced a rise of 43 percent over December 2005 (€ 210.9 billion). In 2006, yearly average outstandings reached € 255.0 billion compared to € 188.3 billion in 2005.

In the Investment Funds services, business was strong with 299,685 transactions processed in December a 16 percent rise over December 2005 (258,045). For the whole year 2006, 3,600,524 transactions were processed, a 47 percent rise over 2005 (2,452,441).
