Chicago Climate Futures Exchange® (CCFE®), a Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) regulated Designated Contract Market and wholly-owned subsidiary of Chicago Climate Exchange® (CCX®), announced record trading volume for February 2009. CCFE traded 56,429 contracts throughout the month as compared to the previous record of 55,350 contracts in January 2008.
Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) futures and options, launched in August 2008, traded a record 14,870 futures and options contracts in the second month of 2009. Additionally, a record 17,374 Nitrogen Financial Instrument™ Annual (NFI™-A) futures and options contracts traded in February 2009, bringing the total NFI-A volume to 26,040 contracts year-to-date, compared with 28,230 contracts for all of 2008.
Also, 6,161 Carbon Financial Instrument® (CFI®) futures and options contracts traded in February 2009, representing a 217% increase over the 1,941 CFI contracts traded in February 2008.
