Charity Day Turns Tragedy Into Triumph For Disabled Children

Date 28/05/2015

A charity fundraising day organised by BGC Partners, an American global financial service with offices in Canary Wharf, London, has raised £75,000 for a national disabled children’s charity.

The Charity Day was created to commemorate the companies 658 friends and colleagues and 61 Eurobrokers employees, who perished as a result of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Centre in 2001.

Caudwell Children, the national charity that provides practical and emotional support to disabled children and their families, were the UK beneficiary of the day, which took place on September 11th 2014.

The annual event sees 100% of global revenues from the day being shared, through the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund, to dozens of charities around the world.

Kerrie Davies, Events Manager at Caudwell Children, announced today that the charity has now received the welcome fundraising boost. She said: “It takes eight months for BGC Partners and the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund to process the monies from the event, and I’m delighted to say that the cash has now been banked.

“It’s poignant, and yet inspiring, that out of such a tragedy an event like this is having such a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of disabled children across the region.”

Caudwell Children, took celebrity ambassadors Boris Becker, Vernon Kay, Sam Allardyce and Tamara Eccleston, daughter of F1’s Bernie Eccleston, to the offices of BGC Partners for the Charity Day. Here they joined licenced brokers to conduct trading transactions with clients.

Kerrie, stressed that the impact of the donation couldn’t be underestimated. As she explained: “The services that we provide cannot be accessed through statutory measures. This money will allow us to provide therapies, treatments, specialist equipment and short breaks to children and young people who are not getting the support that they so desperately need and deserve.”

Since its inception the Charity Day has raised in excess of £65 million globally.
