Chaiyawat Wibulswasdi Elected Thai Bourse's New Chairman

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET)’s board of governors has appointed Chaiyawat Wibulswasdi, as the exchange's 16th chairman, effective from October 30, 2015 onwards.

SET Secretary of the board of governors (BoG) Supakit Jirapraditkul said that the exchange has also welcomed Voravan Tarapoom as a new governor. Chaiyawat and Voravan were BoG members selected by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to replace Sathit Limpongpan and Suthichai Chitvanich, whose terms have ended recently. Chaiyawat’s and Voravan’s term will run from October 28, 2015 to October 27, 2017.

Chaiyawat, 69, received his Ph.D. from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the United States. He served as deputy finance minister; acting finance minister; Bank of Thailand’s governor; vice chairman of the SEC; chairman of the board of directors of Krung Thai Bank and chairman of SET’s Social Responsibility Center. Chaiyawat has been in his current positions as advisor to deputy prime minister on economic affairs; board of director of Mahidol College of Management; honorary advisor of Fiscal Policy Research Institute Foundation and director of Puey Ungpakorn Institute.

Voravan Tarapoom, 60, holds her master’s degree from North Texas State University, USA. She served as Capital Market Development Committee of Finance Ministry; and discipline committee for SEC. Her current positions were BBL Asset Management chief executive officer; chairwoman of the Federation of Thai Capital Market Organizations and chairwoman of the Association of Investment Management Companies.
