The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC)
participates, along with nineteen other federal agencies, in the Financial
Literacy and Education Commission (FLEC), which provides Americans easy access to
information that can help them better understand their money – how to save
it, invest it, and manage it wisely. As part of this program, and in light of the
terrible disruption to the lives of many individuals along the Gulf Coast due to
the effects of Hurricane Katrina, the FLEC has established a section on its
website (
mymoney.gov) that provides links to
a number of federal agencies that may be contacted in order to obtain assistance
in dealing with many of the personal issues and problems that residents of the
Gulf Coast and others are experiencing due to Hurricane Katrina.
The FLEC is chaired by the Secretary of the Treasury John Snow and its website
subcommittee is chaired by CFTC Commissioner Sharon Brown-Hruska.
