CFE's August Average Daily Volume Up Over Previous Month; Year-To-Date Volume 20% Ahead Of Year-Ago

The CBOE Futures Exchange, LLC (CFE) today announced that August average daily volume of 4,343 contracts rose three percent over the 4,208 contracts per day during July 2008.

Total trading volume at CFE during August was 91,218 contracts, a decline of one percent from the July 2008 volume of 92,565 contracts traded.August had one fewer trading session than July.When compared to the year-ago volume of 183,173 contracts traded during August 2007, which was the second-busiest month for trading activity ever at CFE, August 2008 volume was down 50 percent.

Year-to-date, 2008 trading volume is 20 percent ahead of the same period from a year ago.Through the end of August, total trading volume at CFE stands at 792,672 contracts traded, compared to 661,456 contracts traded through August 2007, which was a record period at CFE.Year-to-date average daily volume through the end of August stands at 4,718 contracts, versus the 3,937 contracts per day from 2007.

Monthly volume in VIX futures, based on the CBOE Volatility Index (ticker VX), totaled 85,591 contracts, relatively unchanged from the 85,931 contracts traded during July 2008.Average daily volume in VIX futures during August 2008 was 4,076 contracts, up slightly from the 3,906 contracts per day in July 2008.

Volume in futures on the CBOE DJIA Volatility Index (ticker DV) totaled 2,472 contracts during August, a decrease of 14 percent from the previous monthly volume of 2,886 contracts traded.Volume in the CBOE Russell 2000 Volatility Index futures, RVX, (ticker VR) totaled 2,625 contracts during the month, off 13 percent from the July 2008 volume of 3,039 contracts.
