The California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) today announced the appointment of John E. Saxon as Chief of its Innovation Services Division.
Saxon will lead a staff of 138 information technology professionals and be in charge of planning, policy development, and operations for nine information technology areas, including enterprise architecture, business development and strategic planning, business engineering, project management, data administration, security administration, enterprise quality assurance, enterprise release management, and innovative technology services. He will report to Teri Bennett, Assistant Executive Officer for the CalPERS Information Technology Services Branch.
“John has extensive experience and expertise in developing and managing information technology systems in government and the private sector,” said Bennett.
“I am confident that his skills and expertise will be a valuable asset to CalPERS as we develop and implement technology systems for managing and delivering the services our members and employers expect and want from their retirement system.”
Saxon has more than 27 years of information technology experience. Prior to joining CalPERS, he was Deputy Director of the Architected Services Division of the State of California’s Legislative Data Center, where he served in various information technology capacities over the past 13 years. His private sector experience includes serving as a system engineer for Ball Aerospace and Aerojet General Corporation of Sacramento.
Saxon has a BS degree in computer science and a MS degree in software engineering, both from National University.
CalPERS is the largest public pension fund in the U.S., with assets of more than $250 billion. It administers retirement and health benefits for 1.5 million current and retired California public employees and their families on behalf of 2,600 State and local government employers.
