Listing

Total number of listed companies on CASE in May 2008 decreased to 372 companies as opposed to 400 in the previous month.

There were four new listed companies this month, with a total capitalization of US$ 507 million (LE 2,725 million).

Turnover

Total number of trading days in May 2008 amounted to 20 days with total value traded of US$ 13,109.13 million (LE 70,396.05 million). Value traded of listed securities amounted to US$ 12,396.04 million (LE 66,566.75 million), of which shares, bonds and funds represented 95.02%, 4.98% and 0.00%, respectively. Unlisted securities i.e. Over the Counter trading reached US$ 713.09 million (LE 3,829.30 million), which represents 5% of total value traded for the month.

This is in comparison to April 2008, when value traded of listed securities amounted to US$ 8,701.40 million (LE 46,696.04 million), of which shares represented 93.73%, bonds 6.27% and funds 0.00%. In addition, the OTC trading amounted to US$ 1,429.67 million (LE 7,672.37 million) i.e. 14% of total trading (on- and off-exchange trading) which reached US$ 10,131.07 million (LE 54,368.41 million).

Total volume traded of listed securities market for this month reached 2,486.22 million securities.

During May 2008, 1,424,977 transactions were concluded with an average of 71,249 trades per day, as opposed to 1,366,332 transactions and an average of 68,317 trades per day in April 2008.

Indices

CASE 30 price index, the official market index, witnessed a 6.19% decrease in May 2008 to reach 11,057.33 points and witnessed a YoY increase of 42.31%.

Likewise, the Dow Jones CASE Egypt Titans 20 index witnessed a 5.56% decrease in May, to close at 2262.04 points 29/05/2008, and a 37.00% increase on a YoY basis.

Price Movements of Selected Shares

The ten most active stocks represented 27.52% of the total value & 59.70% of the total volume of shares traded for the month.

During the month of May, the top five gainers, on the official CASE market, were (in descending order of price change) Orascom Development Holding (AG) (+526%), AJWA for Food Industries Company-Egypt (+306%), Maridive & Oil services (+163%), Delta Industries (IDEAL) (+113%) and South Cairo & Giza Mills & Bakeries (+99%).

The top five losers were (in ascending order of price change) Arab Banking Corporation - Egypt (Less Rights) (-28%), Arab Banking Corporation Egypt (-27%), Egyptian Media Production City (-24%), Memphis Pharmaceuticals (-23%) and Medinet Nasr Housing (-21%).

Market Capitalization

Total market capitalization of shares amounted to US$ 163.4 billion (LE 877.3 billion) as of end of May 2008 compared to US$ 163.3 billion (LE 876.4 billion) in April 2008, representing a 0.3% increase.

The bond capitalization recorded US$ 678.6 million (LE 3.6 billion) for corporate bonds and US$ 14.4 billion (LE 77.6 billion) for government bonds at the end of May 2008 (Including Treasury Bonds according to Primary Dealers System).

Foreign Participation

In May 2008, foreign investors participated with 40.71% of the total market value traded with a net inflow of portfolio foreign investment totaling US$ 2 billion (LE 8 billion).

Worth mentioning that this month has witnessed the execution of a mixed tender offer on Orascom Hotels and Development Co., with a total volume of 213 million shares worth US$ 3.1 billion (LE 16.7 billion).
