Total number of listed companies on CASE increased in February 2003 to 1150 compared to 1146 in January 2003.
Five new companies were listed this month with total capitalization of LE 235.14 million.
Turnover
In February 2003, value traded of listed securities amounted to LE 1,143.84 million, of which shares represented 68.8%, bonds 31.22% and funds 0.01%. On the other hand, the OTC trading amounted to LE 123.97 million i.e. 10% of total trading (on- and off-exchange trading) which reached LE 1,267.8 million, a 35.4% decline compared to the month before, and a 73.9% decrease to February 2002.
Total volume traded (shares & bonds) for the month reached 52.86 million securities.
During February 2003, 67,209 transactions were concluded with an average of 4,201 trades per day, while the average daily turnover amounted to LE 79.2 million.
Indices
In February, values of the CASE 30 Price, the official market index, and the S&P/IFCG indexes decreased. CASE 30 lost 3.9% of its value in February and witnessed a 12.4% decline on YoY.
Likewise, the S&P/IFCG index witnessed a 9.0% decline in February and a 8.6% decrease on a YoY basis.
Price Movements of Selected Shares
The ten most active stocks represented 70.57% of the total volume of shares traded and 75.25% of total value of shares traded for the month.
During the month of February, the top ten gainers, on the official CASE market, were (in descending order of price change) Misr Chemical Industries (+23%), Egypt Aluminum (+20%), Arab Cotton Ginning (+16%), Misr Hotels (+15%), Mena Tourism and Real Estate Investment (+14%), Oriental Weavers (+12%), Technopak (+11%), Damietta Containers and Cargo (+10%), Misr Fertilizers (+10%) and Suez Cement (+9%).
The top ten losers were (in ascending order of price change) aic (-27%), Orascom Hotel Holdings (-25%), Arab Ceramics (-22%), Pfizer Egypt (-19%), Medinet Nasr Housing (-18%), Egyptian Contracting (-17%), HSBC Bank Egypt (-17%), Orascom Telecom Holding (-16%), Orascom Projects & Tourist Development (-16%) and International Electronics (-15%).
Market Capitalization
Total market capitalization of all securities amounted to LE 127.66 billion as of end of February 2003 compared to LE 129.15 billion in January 2003, representing a slight 1.15% decline.
The bond capitalization recorded LE 5.64 billion for corporate bonds and LE 14.51 billion for government bonds at the end of February 2003.
Foreign Participation
In February, foreign investors participated with 19.41% of the total market value traded with net inflows of portfolio foreign investment in February totaling LE 101.27 million.
