Listing

Total number of listed companies on CASE in April 2008 decreased to 400 companies as opposed to 426 in the previous month.

There were four new listed companies this month, with a total capitalization of US$ 68 million (LE 364 million).

Turnover

Total number of trading days in April 2008 amounted to 20 days with total value traded of US$ 10,131.07 million (LE 54,368.41 million). Value traded of listed securities amounted to US$ 8,701.40 million (LE 46,696.04 million), of which shares, bonds and funds represented 93.73%, 6.27% and 0.00%, respectively. Unlisted securities i.e. Over the Counter trading reached US$ 1,429.67 million (LE 7,672.37 million), which represents 14% of total value traded for the month.

This is in comparison to March 2008, when value traded of listed securities amounted to US$ 11,058.26 million (LE 60,820.41 million), of which shares represented 93.48%, bonds 6.52% and funds 0.00%. In addition, the OTC trading amounted to US$ 2,076.52 million (LE 11,420.84 million) i.e. 16% of total trading (on- and off-exchange trading) which reached US$ 13,134.78 million (LE 72,241.25 million).

Total volume traded of listed securities market for this month reached 2,358.39 million securities.

During April 2008, 1,366,332 transactions were concluded with an average of 68,317 trades per day, as opposed to 1,578,159 transactions and an average of 75,150 trades per day in March 2008.

Indices

CASE 30 price index, the official market index, witnessed a 3.78% increase in April 2008 to reach 11,786.51 points and witnessed a YoY increase of 58.67%.

Likewise, the Dow Jones CASE Egypt Titans 20 index witnessed a 2.32% increase in April, to close at 2395.13 points 30/04/2008, and a 50.84% increase on a YoY basis.

Price Movements of Selected Shares

The ten most active stocks represented 43.65% of the total value & 70.17% of the total volume of shares traded for the month.

During the month of April, the top five gainers, on the official CASE market, were (in descending order of price change) Cairo Development and Investment (+120%), El Ahram Co. for Printing and Packing (+109%), Middle Egypt Flour Mills (+100%), Upper Egypt Flour Mills (+85%) and Dakahlia Sugar (+58%).

The top five losers were (in ascending order of price change) Rakta Paper Manufacturing (-37%), Paper Middle East (Simo) (-24%), Universal for Paper and Packaging Materials (Unipack) (-22%), Egyptian Real Estate (-21%) and Isiss for Hotels & Touristic Real Estate (-21%).

Market Capitalization

Total market capitalization of shares amounted to US$ 163.3 billion (LE 876.4 billion) as of end of April 2008 compared to US$ 159.0 billion (LE 874.6 billion) in March 2008, representing a 0.2% increase.

The bond capitalization recorded US$ 683.3 million (LE 3.7 billion) for corporate bonds and US$ 14.1 billion (LE 75.6 billion) for government bonds at the end of April 2008 (Including Treasury Bonds according to Primary Dealers System).

Foreign Participation

In April 2008, foreign investors participated with 25.25% of the total market value traded with a net inflow of portfolio foreign investment totaling US$ 302 million (LE 1,621 million).
