Listing

Total number of listed companies on CASE in April 2004 increased to 869 companies as opposed to 866 in the previous month.

One company was listed this month with total capitalization of LE 100 million.

Turnover

Total number of trading days in April 2004 amounted to 18 days with total value traded of LE 3,721.13 million. Value traded of listed securities amounted to LE 2,633.53 million, of which shares, bonds and funds represented 99.8%, 0.2% and 0% respectively. On the other hand, OTC trading reached LE 1,087.60 million, which represents 29% of total value traded for the month.

This is in comparison to March 2004, when value traded of listed securities amounted to LE 2,589.76 million, of which shares represented 99.8%, bonds 0.2% and funds 0%. In addition, the OTC trading amounted to LE 302.75 million i.e. 10% of total trading (on- and off-exchange trading) which reached LE 2,892.51 million.

Total volume traded (shares & bonds) for this month reached 187.25 million securities.

During April 2004, 159,835 transactions were concluded with an average of 8,880 trades per day, as opposed to 139,160 transactions and an average of 6,050 trades per day in March 2004.

Indices

CASE 30 Price, the official market index, gained 10.17% in April to reach 1535.24 points and witnessed a 139.15% increase on YoY.

However, the MSCI Egypt index witnessed a 8.17% increase in April, to close at 168.347 points on 30/4/2004, and a 118.32% increase on a YoY basis.

Price Movements of Selected Shares

The ten most active stocks represented 65.97% of the total volume of shares traded and 61.10% of total value of shares traded for the month.

During the month of April, the top ten gainers, on the official CASE market, were (in descending order of price change) Orascom Projects & Tourist Development (OPTD) (+98%), aic (+78%), El Ahli Investment and Development (+63%), El Ezz Porcelain (Gemma) (+60%), Modern Company For Water Proofing (+50%), Technopak (+49%), Arab Cotton Ginning (+48%), Medinet Nasr Housing (+45%), Six of October Development &Investment (SODIC) (+44%) and Egyptian Iron & Steel (+41%).

The top ten losers were (in ascending order of price change) El Nasr Dried Agricultural Products (-16%), Arab Gulf Investment (-12%), Egyptians Abroad for Investment & Development (-12%), Rubex Plastics (-10%), Nile Cotton Ginning (-10%), Development & Engineering Consultants (-9%), Alexandria Cement (-8%), Credit Agricole Indosuez (Egypt) (-5%), National Development Bank (-5%) and Cairo Oils & Soap (-5%).

Market Capitalization

Total market capitalization of shares amounted to LE 186.60 billion as of end of April 2004 compared to LE 176.61 billion in March 2004, representing a 1.2% increase.

The bond capitalization recorded LE 5.63 billion for corporate bonds and LE 14.68 billion for government bonds at the end of April 2004.

Foreign Participation

In April, foreign investors participated with 21% of the total market value traded with net inflows of portfolio foreign investment totaling LE 109.18 million.
