Bursa Malaysia Berhad ("Bursa Malaysia" or the "Exchange") held its 7th edition of the Bursa Bull Charge in the central business district of Kuala Lumpur yesterday. The flagship capital market charity run was graced by YB Tuan Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Minister of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change (NRECC).
The Bursa Bull Charge 2023 garnered the support of over 100 organisations, and witnessed the participation of more than 1,000 runners. Runners were divided into two categories: the 1.5km CEO Run and the 5.0km Run. In addition, 20 students from the Bursa Young Investor Club (“BYIC”)[1] also participated in the run.
"We are delighted to organise the return of the Bursa Bull Charge. Our collective presence here today representing various organisations reinforces an important message: Corporate Malaysia is not solely about profit; it is about making a positive impact on society and the environment. By being part of this event, we are leading by example, demonstrating that businesses can be a force for good, and our actions today testify to this commitment," said Datuk Muhamad Umar Swift, Chief Executive Officer of Bursa Malaysia.
“At Bursa Malaysia, we are deeply committed to driving climate action, aligned with our aspiration of becoming ASEAN's leading, sustainable and globally connected marketplace. Our dedication to promoting solid sustainability practices among businesses is evident in numerous key initiatives. This includes the enhanced Sustainability Reporting Framework introduced last year, the mandatory sustainability onboarding program for PLC directors, the PLC Transformation Programme, the Centralised Sustainability Intelligence Platform, as well as the Voluntary Carbon Market and related ecosystem capacity-building efforts.”
Since its establishment in 2014, the Bursa Bull Charge had attracted participation from more than 11,300 runners and raised funds of over RM13.3 million for 172 beneficiaries, supporting communities such as the Orang Asli, women (including single mothers), children, and persons with disabilities.
The Bursa Bull Charge 2023 raised a total of RM1.5 million that will support eight new beneficiaries for climate action and environmental protection. The beneficiaries are:
· Global Peace Festival Malaysia
· Impact Malaysia

As part of efforts to raise awareness and reduce carbon footprint, the event day featured several recycling initiatives, including CelcomDigi’s e-waste recycling booth, the KLEAN Reverse Vending Machine for recycling PET bottles and aluminium cans, and the Net Zero Games booth. Other event highlights include Best Dressed runners, the Bursa Bull Dance competition, and a riveting, facilitated percussion activity performed together with some of the participants during the closing ceremony.
