Bursa Malaysia: Annual Palm And Lauric Oils Conference To Tackle Challenges Ahead

Date 24/02/2009

As the world's successful palm oil futures contract exchange, Bursa Malaysia will once again host the global premier Annual Palm & Lauric Oils Conference & Exhibition: Price Outlook 2009/2010 (POC 2009) at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from 10 to 12 March 2009.

Themed ‘20 Years, The Journey Continues', Bursa Malaysia celebrates the success of this flagship conference, featuring leading industry speakers from Malaysia and around the world, with a special keynote address from Y.B. Dato' Peter Chin Fah Kui, Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities.

Dato' Yusli Mohamed Yusoff, Chief Executive Officer of Bursa Malaysia said, "Looking at the market volatility for palm oil last year and the beginning of this year, we see this conference as timely and critical in discussing the implications of the current market turbulence and price uncertainty of major commodities. However, I believe opportunities still abound despite the challenging market conditions. This conference will be apt in offering industry players a key platform to discuss strategies to sustain the growth of this viable commodity, and to strengthen and expand the palm oil market in the year ahead."

Renowned palm oil industry pundits from around the world will speak on three main segments: Lauric Oils; Biodiesel; and Palm Oil and Major Oils & Oilseeds. Three special focus sessions will also be constructed on the topics of "Price Discovery of Commodity Prices at Global Exchanges", "Global Sugarcane Markets - Seeking Direction under New Economic Paradigm" and "Russian Oilseed and Oil Industry".

Established as the premier event for the palm oil industry internationally, POC has gained a reputation as being the single largest gathering of palm oil producers, dealers, traders, as well as those who are involved in the edible oils and energy industries. POC2009 will be expecting a turnout of 1,000 participants worldwide from various related organisations in the industry. This not-to-be-missed event will provide the delegates with an avenue to feature products and services of the oils and fats industry, as well as create a platform for networking and creating new business opportunities. In addition, the conference will also be flavoured with activities such as a palm oil plantation tour, golf challenge, exhibition, cocktail reception and a gala dinner.
