Securities Investors Association Singapore (SIAS) is organising a seminar aimed at generating Singaporean investor interest on Bursa Malaysia listed securities. The seminar named “Malaysia Day 2007” is sponsored by Bursa Malaysia Berhad for the second year running and will be held at The Rock Auditorium on 27 October 2007.
"Malaysia Day 2007" will feature profile presentations by CEOs of by eight (8) selected Malaysian public listed companies (PLCs) from various sectors such as industrial products, plantation, construction, properties, consumer products, trading services and finance. The featured companies are Malaysia Steel Works (KL) Berhad, Asiatic Development Berhad, Hock Seng Lee Berhad, Hunza Properties Berhad, QL Resources Berhad, TRC Synergy Berhad, KPJ Healthcare Berhad and Bursa Malaysia Berhad.
SIAS President and Chief Executive Officer Mr. David Gerald said, “We want investors to expand their interest and capitalise on the growth opportunities available within the ASEAN region, particularly in the robust Malaysian capital market.”
Chief Executive Officer of Bursa Malaysia Berhad Dato’ Yusli Mohamed Yusoff commented that the exchange hoped to engage directly with foreign investors in events such as “Malaysia Day 2007”.
“Foreign investor interest in the Malaysian capital market remains high at 36% year-to-date compared to 34% in 2006. This figure is encouraging as it reflects the increased interest and confidence in our market,” he said.
Dato’ Yusli hopes that the seminar will give foreign investors a clearer picture of Malaysian companies so that they can gain deeper appreciation of the potential these companies could hold as investments. “To help retail investors make informed decisions, we are giving investors equal access to information via the Capital Market Development Fund-Bursa Malaysia (CBRS) Research Scheme. Through Bursa Malaysia’s eResearch portal, retail investors can access reliable and independent analyst reports on stocks similar to those made available to institutional investors,” concluded Dato’ Yusli.
Some 800 investors have registered for the seminar.
