Bursa Malaysia and Hong Leong Investment Bank (HLIB) today rolled out the first series of its Bursa-HLIB Stratum Focus with a seminar focusing on the Healthcare sector. Aimed at equipping Government-Linked Investment Companies with sound knowledge on various sectors of the industry, the Bursa-HLIB Stratum Series is expected to garner the interest from institutional investors who seek to be ahead of the curve by identifying potential investment trends as well as potential stocks that will be the greatest beneficiaries of demographic trends.
Speaking at the Opening Ceremony at Bursa Malaysia, here today, Ms Lee Jim Leng, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, HLIB, said, “As an institution which seeks to be the foremost integrated financial services firm offering unrivalled value to its clients, HLIB believes it is important to equip our institutional investors with sufficient industry knowledge on local market potentials. This forms part of our responsibility to assist them in keeping ahead of market developments and opportunities, providing effective solutions, financial analysis and outlook on the economy and industry to assist clients in making informed decisions.” She added that the Bursa-HLIB Stratum Focus Series is part of HLIB’s corporate responsibility to educate and instill that knowledge.

Meanwhile, Zunaidah Idris, Head of Dealing, HLIB said,” Bursa-HLIB Stratum Focus Series is being organised in our efforts to educate and provide assistance to our clients and investors in identifying trends which possess great investment opportunity potential. At the end of our seminars, we believe that our clients will gain more useful knowledge and pertinent information which will enable them to make informed investment decisions.”
She said HLIB believes it is important to enhance human capital talent by providing relevant knowledge, tools, exposure as well as valuable insight for clients. To this effect, the Bursa-HLIB Stratum Focus series would engage notable independent market researchers, regulators and practitioners at each round of seminar to speak on selected topics.
“For the first series of the Bursa-HLIB Stratum Focus seminar, we decided to delve into the Healthcare sector given its above-market return potential. This is attributed to the Healthcare sector’s defensive nature, a sustainable above-trend growth as well as the sustainability of the industry growth from the demographic perspective; which include standards of living, the aging population, income growth; and increase in health tourism potential,” she added.
Among speakers who presented during this round of the Healthcare-themed seminar were Dr Ramli bin Zainal, Deputy Director, Pharmaceutical Services Division, Ministry of Health; Ms Rhenu Bhuller, Senior Vice President, Healthcare, Frost & Sullivan Asia Pacific; YBhg Dato’ Farshila Emran, Managing Director, Pharmaniaga Berhad; and Fakhirah Roslan, Consulting Associate from Frost & Sullivan.
Topics which were discussed included on National Pharmaceutical Policy and Practices, Overview and Trends of the Healthcare Industry, Healthcare for the Aged and a special lunch talk session on Healthy Lifestyle: Live to 100
The Bursa-HLIB Stratum Focus Series, encompassing educational enhancement programmes, is a long-term collaboration with Bursa Malaysia and will cover various sectors such as Logistics and Transportation, Utilities, Construction, Property, Telecommunication, Biotechnology, among others.
