Breach Predictor Enables ITRS Clients To Predict Potential Outages

Date 31/01/2011

ITRS Group plc announced today the planned release of its award-winning Intra-day Breach Predictor (IBP). The technology is an industry first in being a turnkey, one-stop solution and was recently awarded Silver, for best innovative development in risk management in 2010, by the highly respected FOW technology awards. ITRS is the leading global provider of predictive, real-time monitoring and proactive application performance management products to the world’s financial community and has developed IBP in direct response to customer needs. By working closely with a group of clients IBP has successfully completed prototype evaluation in preparation for a full production release in Q2.

Uniquely, IBP combines historical data with real-time information - generated through ITRS Geneos - to create a profile of a normal day, which is compared to the current system status to make real-time predictions of whether a system will run within its operating parameters or, if not, when and where a breach is likely to occur. IBP is the first in the family of new Geneos monitoring and management capabilities, which allows Geneos to intelligently predict outages well ahead of the time they may actually occur, letting operations staff take action before business is impacted.

Misha Kipnis, ITRS CTO, said, “The Breach Predictor is a major step forward for the market in terms of management and avoidance of risk. ITRS Operational Intelligence is unique in the way it predicts outages based on models of real-time metrics combined with historical analysis. IBP was developed in response to our clients’ requests and we believe the impact of this innovation will be significant. Financial institutions will now have a tool which allows them to take early corrective action to prevent technology issues having a detrimental effect on their businesses.”

Geneos presents multi-level information on thousands of systems and processes on a highly configurable dashboard: high-level overviews for traders and senior management (e.g. exchanges/trading venues, regional overviews, etc.) and low-level, detailed information for IT staff. Just like Geneos, IBP has very flexible and highly configurable rules. Historical data (average transactions/minute/day, average real-time values of a metric over a month, etc.) is analysed to give accurate predictions. Alerts are issued via Geneos or email, SMS and PDAs.

Operational Intelligence allows users to visualise thousands of real-time metrics and predict impending problems in the coming hours. It can be configured to execute an action, such as passing a message to an algo trading system, informing a group of people or initiating a user-defined process to correct the problem automatically.

IBP is aimed at sell-side firms with high-performance trading applications and was developed in response to market demand. It is used principally by IT operations but also by business, compliance and risk managers, systems managers, operational staff and developers; it can be used across all asset classes.
