This figure includes purchases of international investors in the public offerings, which amounted to BRL 49,437,132,331.30 (or USD 25,896,917,434.70), and the net trading value at BOVESPA, which registered an outflow of BRL 4,235,446,607.00 (or USD 2,377,930,557.00), as of December 28, 2007.
In December, international investors’ total purchase at BOVESPA was BRL 40,326,708,740.00 (or USD 22,604,166,544.00) and total sales of BRL 39,194,467,249.00 (or USD 21,969,719,659.00), totalling a net inflow of BRL 1,132,241,491.00 (or USD 634,446,885.00).

BOVESPA’s trading value increased 100.3% in 2007 comparing to 2006, and reached BRL 1.2 trillion (or USD 625.9 billion). The daily average registered BRL 4.9 billion (or USD 2.6 billion), an increase of 101.1% compared to the previous year (BRL 2.4 billion or USD 1.2 billion). The number of trades raised 74.0%, reaching 37.5 million in 2007 against 21.5 million in the previous year.
In December, the total trading value was BRL 113.4 billion (or USD 63.5 billion). The daily average was BRL 6.3 billion (or USD 3.5 billion) and the number of trades was 198,939.

The Cash Market was responsible for 93% of the total value traded in 2007, followed by the Option (4%) and Forward (3%) markets.
The top 10 traded stocks were responsible for 45% of the total trading value in the Cash Market and they were:
- Petrobras PN;
- Vale R Doce PNA;
- Bradesco PN;
- Usiminas PNA;
- Vale R. Doce ON;
- Petrobras ON;
- Itaubanco PN;
- Sid. Nacional ON;
- Gerdau PN and
- Itausa PN.
The annual trading turnover was pushed again by International Investors, who led transactions with a 35% stake against 36% in 2006. Institutional Investors ranked second with 30% compared to 27% registered in the previous year, followed by Individuals with 23% (against 25%). Financial Institutions and Companies respectively maintained 10% and 2% stakes.
In December, the International Investors’ stake reached 35.2% of the total trading value, compared to 35.3% registered in November. Institutional Investors registered 31% (against 30%), followed by Individuals with 22% (against 24%); Financial Institutions, 10% (against 8%); Companies, 2.0%, (against 1.8%).

The Home Broker system registered a remarkable growth in 2007. For comparison purposes, the monthly average trading value increased from BRL 6 billion to BRL 15.6 billion, an increase of 153.5%. The monthly average number of trades raised 122.4%, from 752.4 thousand trades to 1.7 million. The Home Broker´s participation reached 8.4% of the total trading value in 2007.
The Home Broker system reached the following performance in December:
- Overall record of daily average trading value, which registered BRL 1 billion
- Overall record of daily number of trades, that reached 121,739 (this figures considers all trades in which at least one side was done via home broker).
- Total traded value amounted to BRL 19.5 billion
- Over 2 million trades
- The average value per trade registered BRL 8.9 thousand

Market CapitalizationIn 2007, BOVESPA’s market capitalization amounted to BRL 2.5 trillion (or USD 1.4 trillion) against BRL 1.5 trillion (or USD 723 billion), representing an increase of 60.4%. In 2007, the top five sectors in terms of market capitalization were: Financial Institutions with BRL 473 billion (19.1%), Oil, Gas and Bio with BRL 437 billion (17.6%), Mining with BRL 292 billion (11,8%), Electric Power with BRL 182 billion (7.3%) and Food with BRL 178 billion (7.2%).

The 156 companies which by the end of December were listed at BOVESPA’s Special Levels of Corporate Governance represented 57% of BOVESPA’s total market capitalization, 66% of the trading value and 74% of the number of trades in the cash market.
December registered 2 IPOs in the Special Listing Segments of Corporate Governance: Tempo Paricipações S.A. and MPX Energia joined Novo Mercado.

During the year, the Ibovespa benchmark registered 43 records and reached 65,790 on December 6th, 2007. The index closed December up 1.4% at 63,886 points. This number represents a rise of 43.6% in local currency terms, IBOVESPA in 2007 were:

Fixed IncomeIn 2007, the trading value of BOVESPA’s fixed income markets was BRL 931,300,080.20 or USD 483,668,275.91 (against BRL 1,220,339,891.88 or USD 564,408,970.38 totalled in 2006). Out of this total, BRL 523,796,456.63 (or USD 269,286,700.83) referred to FIDCs, BRL 176,132,942.10 (or USD 93,402,577.38) to CRIs and BRL 231,370,681.47 (or USD 122,643,552.65) to Corporate Bonds
In 2007, 35 FDICs (Receivable Investment Funds), 43 Corporate Bonds and 10 CRIs (Real Estate Receivable Certificates) started to trade at BOVESPA Fix and SOMA Fix Markets. In December, 2 Corporate Bonds and 3 (Receivable Investment Funds) started to trade. In this month, the trading value of BOVESPA’s fixed income markets was BRL 163,072,559.17 or USD 90,668,999.09. Out of this total, BRL 14,760,267.94 (or USD 8,624,419.63) referred to FIDCs, BRL 43,977,195.37(or USD 24,458,370.56) to CRIs and BRL 104,335,095.86 (or USD 58,146,208.89) to Corporate Bonds.

The Securities Lending Program of CBLC (BTC) registered a trading value of BRL 272.4 billion in 2007 (an increment of 148.5%), which surpassed the BRL 109.6 billion registered in 2006. In 2007, 568,592 trades were executed (against 271,210 in the previous year) and the monthly average was 47,383. These transactions had a total of 369 underlying securities (against 267 in 2006).
In 2007, the number of public offerings reached 76 and the total capital raised was BRL 69.5 billion (this figure includes the IPOs even those which the closure notice were not published until January 4th, 2008). Out of this total, BRL 55.5 billion referred to 64 IPOs, which included 6 BDRs. For comparison purposes, in 2006 the amount offered was BRL 30.2 billion, which BRL 15.2 billion were raised by IPOs.
By the end of 2007 Brazilian Clearing and Depository Corporation (CBLC) registered 456,557 active individual investor custody accounts, against 219,634 in 2006.
BOVESPA Popularization CampaignIn 2007 683 new investment clubs have registered with BOVESPA.
Since September 2002, the popularization campaign “BOVESPA Where You Are” has stimulated the creation of 2,047 investment clubs. BOVESPA had a total of 2,160 clubs registered as of 2007. According to the last available data (November/07), the investment clubs’ total assets amounted to BRL 14.5 billion, with 153,900 investors.
