The net outflow of foreign investments in the Brazilian Stock Market accounted to BRL 136,724,790.70 (or USD 54,010,350.30) in 2008. This figure includes purchases of international investors in the public offerings, which amounted to BRL 3,729,027,622.30 (or USD 2,104,088,321.70), and the net trading value at BOVESPA, which registered an outflow of BRL 3,865,752,413.00 (or USD 2,158,098,672), as of February 29, 2008.
In February, international investors’ total purchase at BOVESPA was BRL 40,696,447,989.00 (or USD 23,596,732,234.00) and total sales of BRL 39,831,049,279.00 (or USD 23,090,877,851.00), totalling a net inflow of BRL 865,398,710.00 (or USD 505,854,383.00).

Trading Value and Number of Trades
In February, the total trading value was BRL 116.6 billion (or USD 67.6 billion). The daily average was BRL 6.1 billion (or USD 3.6 billion) and the number of trades was 203,322. For comparison purposes, January registered 208,469 trades and BRL 6.0 billion (or USD 3.4 billion) as financial value daily traded.
The most active stocks in terms of trading value were: :
- Petrobras PN (BRL 16.3 billion or USD 9.4 billion);
- Vale R Doce PNA (BRL 12.8 billion or USD 7.4 billion);
- Usiminas PNA (BRL 4.1 billion or USD 2.4 billion);
- Sid Nacional ON (BRL 3.6 billion or USD 2.1 billion); and
- Bradesco PN (BRL 3.3 billion or USD 1.9 billion).

In February, the International Investors’ stake reached 34.7% of the total trading value, compared to 35.2% registered in January. Institutional Investors registered 29% (against 30%), followed by Individuals with 25.5% (against 24%); Financial Institutions, 8.8% (against 9%); Companies, 1.9%, (against 1.8%).

The Home Broker system reached the following performance in February:
- Overall record of daily average trading value, which registered BRL 1.3 billion
- Overall record of daily number of trades, that reached 124,619 (this figures consider all trades whose one side, at least, was executed via home broker).
- Total traded value amounted to BRL 24.8 billion
- Over 2 million trades
- The average value per trade registered BRL 10.5 thousand

In February, BOVESPA’s market capitalization amounted to BRL 2.4 trillion (or USD 1.4 trillion) against BRL 2.3 trillion (or USD 1.3 trillion) in January.

Novo Mercado and Levels of Corporate Governance
The 157 companies which, by the end of February, were listed at Level 1, Level 2 and Novo Mercado represented 56% of BOVESPA’s total market capitalization, 68% of the trading value and 75% of the number of trades in the cash market.
In February, Nutriplant Industria e Comercio S.A. joined Bovespa Mais, a special listing segment of corporate governance for companies willing to develop themselves gradually in the Brazilian Capital Markets.

The Cash Market was responsible for 93% of the total value traded in February, followed by the Forward (4%) and Options (3%) markets.

In February, ITEL closed the month without any variation (at 1,331 points). The other indices closed the month up and performed as following: INDX (+10.5% at 10,223 points); ITAG (+8.7% at 8,078 points); IGC (+8.6% at 6,435 points); IEE (+8.5% at 17,467 points); ISE (+6.9% at 1,930 points); IBrX-50 (+6.9% at 9,507 points); IBrX-100 (+6.9% at 21,034 points); and IVBX-2 (+5.3% at 5,409 points).
In February, 2 FDICs (Receivable Investment Funds) and 4 Corporate Bonds started to trade at BOVESPA Fix and SOMA Fix Markets. The trading value of BOVESPA’s fixed income markets turned over BRL 95,968,465.82 (or USD 55,151,379.53), against BRL 486,717,476.58 (or USD 277,294,151.18), the total traded in January. Out of this total, BRL 25,522,549.52 (or USD 14,733,073.13) referred to FIDCs, BRL 53,623,651.45 (or USD 30,765,379.28) to CRIs and BRL 16,822,264.85 (or USD 9,652,927.12) to Corporate Bonds.

The Securities Lending Program of CBLC (BTC) registered a trading value of BRL 29.2 billion in February, against BRL 32.8 billion registered in January. In February, 55,283 trades were executed (against 63,394 in the previous month). These transactions had a total of 251 underlying securities (against 261 in January).
By the end of February, Brazilian Clearing and Depository Corporation (CBLC) registered 469,791 active individual investor custody accounts, against 466,830 in January.
BOVESPA Popularization Campaign
In February, 78 new investment clubs have registered with BOVESPA. The year 2008 already counts on 163 new investment clubs. Since September 2002, the popularization campaign “BOVESPA Where You Are” has stimulated the creation of 2,210 investment clubs.
BOVESPA had 2,289 clubs registered as of February 2008. According to the last available data (January/08), the investment clubs’ total assets amounted to BRL 13.3 billion, with 154,071 investors.
