Bond Market In The New Regulatory Environment - The 13th SIX Swiss Exchange Bond Event Offered Valuable Information About The New Legal Framework As Well As The Associated Opportunities And Risks

Date 16/06/2017

Some 70 participants attended yesterday's Bond Event 2017 in Zurich, where experts provided information about upcoming regulatory changes that will affect the Swiss bond market (see agenda).

Rodolfo Straub, Head Special Projects at SIX Swiss Exchange, introduced the event with an overview of the prevailing regulatory situation in Switzerland and the EU. Then, Dr René Bösch, Partner at Homburger AG, presented the regulatory change in the primary market. He informed about the latest developments in the Swiss and European legislation and drew a first interim conclusion.

The event was rounded off by Regula Berger, Member of the Senior Management at Zürcher Kantonalbank, who held a presentation on the Swiss Financial Market Infrastructure Act (FMIA) and its application, with a particular focus on the obligations of the different financial market players in certain situations.

Traders' greatest concern is regulation

In a Europe-wide trader survey conducted by SIX Swiss Exchange in April 2017, more than half of the respondents stated that their greatest concern is regulation. While their views differed regarding the extent to which regulation would affect their trading behaviour, the majority agreed that prospects for the next five years looks good.

Information about SIX Swiss Exchange's progress on the implementation of the Financial Market Infrastructure Act (FMIA) and its position on key topics can be found on its Regulatory Changes microsite.
