BME: Two Companies Listed On MAB Are Short-Listed In The First Edition Of The “European Small And Mid-Cap Awards” - Gowex Nominated In The "Best New Listed Company" Category And Carbures In The "Most International- Minded Newcomer" Category

Date 09/10/2013

Gowex and Carbures, the two most active companies among the 23 listed on the MAB market, the Spanish exchange for small companies, have been short-listed in the first edition of the "European Small and Mid -Cap Awards" from a total of 31 European companies. In this first edition ten European stock exchanges have presented 31 companies, of which 16 have been shortlisted, among them the two Spanish.

The European Commission wants to promote and encourage the success of new IPOs in order to create a favourable environment in which companies can raise financing. To this end, through the Directorate General for Enterprise and Industry, it has created the European Small and Mid-cap Awards, intended to give European recognition and international visibility to the most successful small-and mid-cap companies.

To this end four award categories have been created. Gowex has been nominated in the "Best new listed company" category and Carbures in the "Most international-minded newcomer" category. In the "Best new listed company" such factors as the company’s market share, sales, employment, profit growth in the long term, the share’s long-term performance  and its reputation among investors, analysts, and other companies are taken into account.

In the "Most international- minded newcomer" category the geographic diversity of the company beyond the single market, the presence of foreign investors in the EU, market share, sales, employment and long-term benefits attributable to exports, the share’s long-term performance and the company’s general reputation among investors, analysts and other companies are considered.

In order to be an eligible company it must be nominated by a stock exchange that belongs to the European Union and have a maximum market of €750 million. In addition it must have been listed on a regulated market or a Multilateral Trading Facility (MTF) between the years 2010/2012.

The MAB is a multilateral trading facility, promoted by BME, geared to small capitalisation companies (SMEs) looking to expand. In its four years of operation, the 23 companies listed on this market have obtained financing via equity, for €158 million.

A jury composed of representatives of the media, academia, business and investment and asset management community will decide the winners in each category in an event hosted by the Federation of European Stock Exchanges (FESE) and European Issuers to be held in Brussels on November 19.
