BME Spanish Exchanges: In July Equity Trading Hits An All Time High Once Again

  • In July trading in equities on the Spanish market through SIBE reached € 82.14 bn, 47.4% up on the same month in 2004.
  • In July the value of trading in Latibex came in at € 47 million, 55.5% up on the year.
  • In July trading on MEFF was 1.95 million contracts, 80% more than in the same period 2004. Worth noting is the volume posted in IBEX 35 Options, at 393,969 contracts - 200% up on the year- and Stock Options, at 739,120 contracts -112% up on the year.
  • Trading volume in Corporate Debt on AIAF in July was € 83.64 bn, 63.2% up on the year.

Equities

In July trading in equities on the Spanish market through SIBE amounted to € 82.14 bn, which represents a year on year increase of 47.4% and a monthly trading all time high on the Spanish market. During the month more than 1.5 million bargains were carried out on the market, 50.2% up on 2004.

The value of trading on Latibex, the market in Euros for Latin American stocks, came in at € 47 million, 55.5% up on the year and a monthly record high in trading volume. The number of trades on the market has increased by 96.6%, also setting a monthly record high.

The return on the IBEX 35® index was 3.40% in July, bringing the accumulated return on the index from January to 11.40%. The return on the IBEX 35® with dividends in the same period was 13.98%. The return on the IBEX MEDIUM CAP® and IBEX SMALL CAP® indices in the first seven months was 32.87% and 31.69% respectively.

The FTSE Latibex Top posted a return of 4.55%, and the accumulated return on the index over the year was 32.24%

Warrants and Certificates

Trading volumes on the warrants and certificates market in July was € 233 million, 63.7% up on the same month last year.

Over 33,110 trades were executed in this month, 44.6% up on July 2004.

Futures and options

Trading volume in MEFF Options and Futures in July was 1.9 million contracts, 80% up on the same month last year.

Trading volume was particularly heavy in IBEX 35 Options, at 393,969 contracts traded - 200% up on the year. Trading in Stock Options reached 739.120 million contracts, posting a 112% year on year increase. Trading in Stock Futures was 325,542 contracts, posting a 135% year on year increase.

The volume of contracts traded on MEFF in the first seven months of the year was 21.57 million, which represents a 42% increase on the same period last year. Futures on the Ibex 35, MEFF’s spearhead product, reached 2.8 million contracts , 9% up on the year. Single stock futures, at 10.3 million contracts, posted growth of 79% and Ibex 35 Options, at 2.6 million contracts, posted a 58% year on year increase.

Corporate Debt

Corporate Debt trading on AIAF in July reached € 83.64 bn, a 63.2 % increase compared to the same period last year. The accumulated value posted from the beginning of the year was € 497.71 bn, 67% up on the year.

New issues in July came in at € 42.52 bn, 19.9% up on the same month in 2004. This brings the figure for the first seven months of the year to € 248.44 bn, 32.1% up on the last year.

The outstanding balance at the end of July was € 394.39 bn, 52.8% up on the same period in 2004. Net financing for the first seven months of the year came at € 86.371 bn, 42.9% up on 2004.

SENAF

In July trading volume on the public debt trading platform SENAF was € 10.75 bn. Trading in SENAF during the first seven months of the year was € 141.72 bn.
