Date 03/11/2010

BM&FBOVESPA, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the World Bank are holding the seminar “Climate change: corporate responsibility and market mechanisms” today, with the participation of experts from several Latin American countries. The purpose of the meeting is to develop the carbon credit market and other financial mechanisms that can help reduce the impact of climate change.

The Exchange, IDB and World Bank believe closer dialog between companies, government and the sustainability and corporate responsibility experts, will be extremely valuable in reducing the damaging effects of global warming.

Among the participants at the seminar are Maria Netto, the IDB climate change lead specialist; Christophe de Gouvello, senior energy specialist at the World Bank Energy Cluster for Latin America; and BM,&FBOVESPA Chief Product Development Officer Marta Alves.

One of the crucial points in this debate is the relationship between the management of greenhouse gas emissions and private sector business planning. The seminar’s agenda also seeks discussions about business opportunities and responsibilities; greenhouse gas inventory protocols; the role of regulation; government measures to stimulate corporate environmental responsibility; sustainability strategies; and the carbon market.

Also taking part in the event will be representatives from bodies such as Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV); the EDP institute of the IPEA institute for applied economic research; the São Paulo State Environment Secretariat; the ICONTEC Colombian Institute of Technical Standards and Certification; and the Voluntary Carbon Standard Association (VCSA).
