BM&FBOVESPA is holding the 7th International Financial and Capital Markets Conference over August 27-29, the major financial sector event in Brazil. The biennial event takes place in the town of Campos do Jordão (São Paulo state) with the objective of provoking reflection and sharing different perspectives that contribute to the development of the financial and capital markets, putting Brazil on the map of large international events on finance. The seventh edition will bring together renowned speakers, authorities and business leaders to discuss current topics related to macroeconomics, regulation, productivity and finance, among others.
At the event, BM&FBOVESPA CEO Edemir Pinto will receive some of Brazil and the world’s most influential experts on the matters under discussion, for presentations and discussions. Brazilian guest speakers compose the panel session Challenges for the Brazilian economy, with the participation of Antonio Delfim Netto, Professor Emeritus at FEA, University of São Paulo, who will speak about Exchange rate and external sector;Affonso Celso Pastore, Founding Partner at A. C. Pastore & Associados, who will speak about Interest rates and inflation; and Samuel Pessoa, Researcher at IBRE, Fundação Getulio Vargas, who will talk about Fiscal policy. Other Brazilian speakers that will participate will be CEO of Arko Advice, Murillo de Aragão, with the lecture The Political Situation and Operation Lava Jato; and Professor of Economics at Columbia UniversityJosé Alexandre Scheinkman, with the lecture Brazil: The productivity challenge.
Regarding foreign experts, three important panel sessions on the economy are scheduled: Finance in the 21st century, with the Professor of Economics at Harvard University, Andrei Shleifer; Financial market stability: What comes next?, with Darrell Duffie, Professor of Finance at Stanford University; and Free markets, national policies, and the global economy, presented by Professor of Economics at Stanford University, John B. Taylor. The President of BlackRock, Robert S. Kapito, has been invited to give a talk about Key challenges and trends in the international asset management industry.
Also of note is the participation of the writer and financial journalist Michael Lewis and the CEO of Investors Exchange, Brad Katsuyama, respectively the author and main character of the book Flash Boys, which is about transactions by high frequency traders and how the fragmentation of the American market has enabled these robots to take advantage during trading. They will make a joint presentation, never seen before in Latin America, about Microstructure of the U.S. equity market.
The event also will have the expected participation of retired Chief Justice of Brazil’s Supreme Court, Joaquim Barbosa, with the lecture Power and ethics in Brazil.
Also taking part in the Conference will be the Chairman of the Board of BM&FBOVESPA, Pedro Parente; the Chairman of Brazil’s Securities Commission, Leonardo Pereira, a representative of the Central Bank of Brazil, and the Minister of Finance, Joaquim Levy, who will close the event on the 29th.
