BM&F ended the month of July with an 81% increase in traded volume in comparison to the same period last year. A total of 38.45 million contracts were traded in July, against 21.24 million registered in July 2006. This past July, the average traded volume reached 1.83 million daily contracts. During the same period last year, the average traded daily volume was 1.01 million.
In July, the markets with the best performance were interest rates, dollar, and Bovespa index futures. Interest rate futures, which in July 2006 reached 12.22 million contracts, this year, soared to 21.04 million contracts, an increase of 72%. The futures dollar market doubled this July: 7.90 million registered contracts, which surpassed by 118% the traded volume registered during the same period last year (3.62 million contracts). Bovespa index futures reached 1.92 million contracts this July, exceeding the 1.06 million contracts traded during the same period last year by 81.34%.
In relation to mini futures contracts, BM&F also topped the registered volume of July 2006: 1.10 million contracts were traded in July 2007 against 468.73 thousand.
