BATS Global Markets, a global stock market operator, reports the BATS 1000? Index (BATSK) declined 1.0% for the week ending January 21 in the U.S. following seven consecutive weeks of gains. The S&P 500 Index declined 0.8% for the same period.
The BATS 1000 Index was at 14,470.87 as of 4 p.m. ET Friday compared with a final value of 14,610.57 last Friday, January 14.
Of the ten sectors that comprise the index, seven declined with four sectors down more than one percent including Basic Materials (–3.4%), Technology and Communications (–1.9%), Business Services (–1.7%) and Financials (–1.6%). Two sectors had positive gains for the week including Industrials and Manufacturing (+0.4%) and Utilities (+0.3%).

The BATS 1000 Index offers a listings-neutral, broad snapshot of the US equities marketplace by tracking the performance of 1,000 securities classified in 10 important industry sectors. The BATS 1000 Index was launched on July 1, 2009, with a base value of 10,000. The 10 index sectors are adjusted to an equal weighting based on the current value of the index every June during an annual reconstitution process.
The BATS 1000 Index data is available via the Consolidated Tape System (CTS), the operating authority for exchange-listed securities information, enabling distribution of the data to the public via the Internet and other electronic media.
