Balai Maklumat BSKL Promotes Informed Investing

Date 29/10/1999

The establishment of the network of Balai Maklumat Bursa Saham Kuala Lumpur (BSKL) will assist in promoting informed investing among investors in the country. KLSE Executive Chairman, Dato' Mohd Azlan Hashim, said that among the key objectives of KLSE are to create investing based on research, long term considerations and the fundamental strength of listed companies. "This is the core reason for the establishment of this fourth Balai Maklumat BSKL, in line with the establishment of the Public Information Centre at Exchange Square in Kuala Lumpur and the Balai Maklumat BSKL, Penang and Balai Maklumat BSKL, Johor Bahru," he said. Dato' Mohd Azlan Hashim was speaking at the Opening Ceremony of the Balai Maklumat BSKL in Kuching by the Chief Minister of Sarawak, YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr. Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud. To date, the facilities and services offered by Balai Maklumat BSKL have been well received by the public. More than 1,500 visitors use the facilities and services at the Balai Maklumat BSKL every month. The visitors comprise professionals, students and investors. The KLSE expects this to increase further with the expansion of training programmes and courses related to the securities industry to be held at the Balai Maklumat BSKL. The services which are popular with users include information on public listed companies, market analysis reports and trading reports of public listed companies. Balai Maklumat BSKL also offer information on the depository, clearing and settlement operations of KLSE Group of Companies such as Malaysian Central Depository Sdn Bhd (MCD) and Securities Clearing Automated Network Services Sdn Bhd (SCANS) respectively. Balai Maklumat BSKL will also expand the operations of the Research Institute of Investment Analysts Malaysia (RIIAM) - the training arm of the KLSE Group - which offers various training programmes related to the securities industry such as courses, seminars, forums and briefings. Mohd Azlan said that Balai Maklumat BSKL, Kuching at the Hock Lee Centre would continue KLSE's role in providing access to investment information and research to promote informed investing. "We invite the support from all parties in Kuching and other districts in Sarawak to utilise our facilities and services." "All feedback, opinions and suggestions from all parties concerned as well as industry participants will be a source of motivation for us to continue providing the best in promoting informed investing", he said. Mohd Azlan continued to say that there are 23 Sarawak-based companies which have taken the opportunity to generate capital through the KLSE - 13 of which are Main Board companies and 10 Second Board companies. "In view of the efforts taken by these companies to be listed on the KLSE, the Exchange encourages more Sarawak-based companies to generate their capital via the KLSE", he added. This will allow companies to expand their business capabilities and at the same time, re-invest their earnings in Sarawak to further enhance the socio-economic status of the state. Balai Maklumat BSKL, Kuching at Hock Lee Centre is open from 9.30am until 6.30pm from Mondays to Fridays and from 9.30am until 5.00pm on Saturdays.
