BAE Systems Detica Announces Winner Of Its Education In The Community Competition At Awards Ceremony In Dublin

BAE Systems Detica today announces the winner of its Education in the Community schools competition in an awards ceremony that took place in Dublin on Friday 24 May. The students from O’Connells school were awarded 1st place and each received prizes worth over €500.  All entrants will be eligible for college scholarship money totalling €15,000 to be awarded to outstanding contributors at a later date.

The award was presented by Aodhán Ó Ríordáin, TD who is the Vice Chair of the Committee on Education and Social Protection.

Four teams comprising of Transition Year students from the Dublin inner-city based secondary schools,  Mount Carmel, O’Connells, Synge Street and Warrenmount, participated in a competition that required students to come up with solutions to real world business challenges around the theme of digital security. The students, mentored by professionals from BAE Systems Detica, learned about launching new products from concept to go-to-market and had to pitch their business plan to a panel of judges.

Currently in its 5th year, BAE Systems Detica’s Education in the Community programme is designed to encourage secondary school students to pursue further education through their participation in the programme, which offers help towards funding at third level college.
