"Australia: A Global Financial Services Centre - Benchmark Report August 2006" is the Australian Federal Government's flagship annual publication measuring Australia's competitive advantages as a global financial services centre.
Among the highlights in this year's Benchmark Report:- Australia is ranked the most resilient economy in the world for the 5th successive year;
- Australia is now entering its 15th year of economic expansion;
- The finance and insurance sector generated 7.5 per cent of Australia's GDP in 2004, a 146 per cent increase since 1985;
- Australia has the 7th largest foreign exchange market in the world and the US$/A$ is the worlds 4th most actively traded currency; and
- At US$700 billion, Australia's pool of investment funds is the world's 4th largest.
