The U.S. blue-chip Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.83% in AUGUST, closing at 13322.13. Stock market indexes in Europe and Asia fell, while globally indexes were up in AUGUST, according to preliminary monthly figures from global index providers, Dow Jones Indexes and STOXX Ltd.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.83% in August, closing at 13322.13. Year-to-date, the index is up 6.89%. (Index calculated in US dollars)
Measuring Europe, the Dow Jones STOXX 50 Index is down 1.91% for August, closing at 3721.94. Year-to-date, the index is up 0.67%. (Index calculated in Euros)
Measuring Eastern Europe, the Dow Jones STOXX EU Enlarged Total Market Index is down 4.58% for August, closing at 365.52. Year-to-date, the index is up 16.74%. (Index calculated in Euros) The performance of the Dow Jones STOXX EU Enlarged 15 blue-chip index is down 5.49% for August, closing at 3578.90. Year-to-date, the index is up 12.45%. AUGUST 2007 Sector Winners and Losers

In the U.S., the Dow Jones Financials sector index was the biggest winner in August, posting a 2.14% gain. The Dow Jones Basic Materials sector index posted the biggest loss, dropping 1.67%
In Europe, the Dow Jones STOXX 600 Telecommunications sector index posted the biggest gain, climbing 3.28%. The Dow Jones STOXX 600 Basic Resources sector index posted the biggest loss, falling 5.75%.
In Asia, the Dow Jones Utilities sector index posted the biggest gain, climbing 2.76%. The Dow Jones Oil & Gas sector index posted the biggest loss, dropping 8.76%.
Globally, the Dow Jones Telecommunications sector index posted the biggest gain, climbing 2.37% in the Dow Jones Sector Titans Indexes. The Dow Jones Automobiles & Parts sector index posted the biggest loss, dropping 5.81%.
