ASX Appoints Alan Cameron As Independent Chair For New Clearing And Settlement Advisory Group

ASX today announced the appointment of industry veteran and governance expert Alan Cameron AO for the role of Independent Chair to lead the stakeholder group that will advise ASX’s clearing and settlement boards on strategic clearing and settlement matters. 

Yesterday the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) hosted a roundtable to finalise the development of the Cash Equities Clearing and Settlement Advisory Group (“Advisory Group”). The Advisory Group members will include senior industry leaders who can bring the perspective of issuers and investors as well as provide deep expertise in clearing, settlement, custody, technology, registry services and markets. It is expected the Group will focus initially on providing industry input to the CHESS replacement project. 

The roundtable was held in Sydney yesterday and Mr Cameron was formally introduced to those in attendance.

Mr Cameron has extensive leadership experience in regulatory, legal and corporate roles which include his position as Chair of ASIC for eight years to 2000. Mr Cameron has also served as a non-executive director at the Sydney Futures Exchange and as Chair of the ASX Compliance Board and the ASX Corporate Governance Council.

The appointment was approved by the boards of ASX Clear and ASX Settlement and Mr Cameron will Chair the first meeting of the Advisory Group.
