12.7 million transactions were completed on Euronext’s cash markets in April 2005, up 8.8% on the same month last year. During the first four months of the year, over 52 million cash transactions were registered on Euronext, a daily average of 628,500.
Shares
12.1 million transactions were completed in shares in April, up 8.9% on April 2004. Over 49.5 million share transactions were registered on Euronext since the beginning of the year, representing a daily average of 596,500.
Trackers
Transactions in trackers amounted to 26,500 during April 2005, up 2.1% on the same month last year. In the year-to-date there have been a total of 94,000 transactions in trackers.
Derivatives products
Euronext.liffe, the international derivatives business of Euronext, traded 73 million futures and options contracts in April 2005, up 4% on the same month last year.
Equity products traded over 45 million futures and options contracts in April.
Commodity products continued to show strong growth, trading 800,000 contracts in April. Volumes were up 15% year-to-date.
Euronext.liffe’s Eurodollar future set an open interest record of 220,000 on 29 April. Volume in April amounted to over 1 million contracts representing an average daily volume of over 49,000, boosted for the second month by activity in “packs and bundles” which grew by approximately 100% in April.
Universal Stock Futures posted their busiest day ever on 26 April, trading 704,372 contracts.
