Zhongguancun Science Park is the first state-level high tech development zone in China, and was created and authorized by the Beijing municipal government and approved by the Chinese State Council in May 1998. Consisting of five economic zones, Zhongguancun covers an area of 280 square kilometers and is home to approximately 8,200 high tech firms.
Mr. Sodano attended the second annual session of the Advisory Committee during his recent trip to Beijing, where he was the keynote speaker at the annual Beijing International High Tech Week conference. Appointed by the Mayor of Beijing, Mr. Sodano joins a select group of 21 committee members including: Liu Qi, Mayor of Beijing; Xu Guanhua, China’s Minister of Science and Technology; Leonard Appleyard, Vice Chairman of Barclay Capital; and Dr. Song Jian, Vice Chairman of China’s People’ Political Consultative Conference, China’s highest political advisory body.
"I am pleased to be able to participate on such a prestigious advisory committee – a group that will help guide the growth and development of one of the most significant components of China’s future economy – the high tech sector," said Mr. Sodano. "The American Stock Exchange can provide a unique perspective as China moves into the next phase of its capital markets development, and I look forward to working with China on such an important project as Zhongguancun."
