After Investigating Rumours About Société Générale, The Autorité Des Marchés Financiers Publicly Reminds The Mail On Sunday Of Its Obligations

Date 22/01/2013

After completing an investigation launched in August 2011, the AMF has decided not to issue astatement of complaint against the UK newspaper but to publicly remind it of the rules regarding the disclosing or dissemination of information about listed companies.

As part of the investigation relating to the financial information opened on 12 August 2011 and trading in Société Générale shares, the AMF noted that the UK newspaper The Mail On Sunday published an article on 7 August 2011 containing information about the financial position of Société Générale that seriously exaggerated the real situation.

The AMF considered that the publication of this misleading information may have wrongly influenced the market. In consequence, it wrote publicly to The Mail On Sunday, asking it to comply with the rules governing the publication of information about financial instruments listed on regulated markets.

The AMF noted that, after a discussion with Société Générale, The Mail On Sunday quickly corrected theinformation in question and therefore decided that sanction proceedings would not be initiated.
