ACER Workshop On Definitions Of Electricity Network Congestions (9 November 2023)

Date 18/10/2023

ACER organises an online workshop to present the outcomes of the study on technical and legal definitions of congestions in electricity networks.

When?

Thursday, 9 November 2023 (14:00 - 15:30 CET)

What is congestion?

The Capacity Allocation and Congestion Mechanism (CACM) Regulation outlines structural congestion as unambiguous, predictable, geographically stable, and frequently recurring under normal power system conditions. ACER seeks to improve definitions of different types of congestion in electricity networks.

What are the workshop’s key objectives?

ACER engaged a consultant (Engie) to conduct a study to provide clearer and simpler definitions of:

  • physical congestion;
  • areal congestion; and
  • structural congestion.

The primary goal of this workshop is to present and discuss with the stakeholders the study’s outcomes.

What are the next steps?

ACER intends to use the study’s results and the insights gained from the workshop as input to the upcoming revisions to the CACM Regulation and associated methodologies.
