The WSAD2017 delegation met with ADX officials to brief them on the global event that brings young people from around the world to Abu Dhabi to raise awareness about the importance of skills. It reinforces ACTVET’s vision of making Technical and Vocational Education (TVET) the first choice for UAE citizens.
Rashed Al Blooshi, Chief Executive of ADX, said: "We are very proud to be supporting this huge event which is being hosted by Abu Dhabi for the first time in MENA region. ADX believes in empowering students through improving and enhancing their capacities and skills.”
Al Blooshi explained that ADX is ready to provide support to this dynamic event. ADX has a wealth of experience in the region and they see this global youth competition as the largest investment yet in training and careers for the country’s youth.
Ali Al Marzouqi, President of EmiratesSkills, praised Abu Dhabi Securities Market for the interest it has shown and its willingness to contribute to the event’s success. He added that the interest and support of government authorities shows these institutions realize how import this global competition is for the next generation. WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017 will help to diversify the UAE’s economy and contribute to a prosperous and sustainable future for the country.
Al Marzouqi pointed out that the competition aims to inspire young people and encourage them to engage in learning professional skills such as aircraft maintenance and mobile robotics, landscape gardening, graphic design technology and others. These skills will be their tools that allow them to create their own businesses or develop their careers in line with Abu Dhabi Plan.
The WorldSkills Competition began in 1950 in Spain and is dedicated to nurturing and honing the skills of talented young people from around the world in the professional and technical fields. Held every two years, there have been 43 Competitions in different countries around the world.
More than 1,300 competitors from the 77 Member countries and regions of WorldSkills International will gather in Abu Dhabi to compete in 51 skill competitions. The 44th WorldSkills Competition will attract more than 100,000 visitors to the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) for four days, from 15 to 18 October. It also marks the first time the event will be held in the Middle East North Africa (MENA) region.
