In September a new monthly volume record was set fostered by a strong dollar futures trading, which was accompanied by a high activity in agricultural derivatives. Besides, the open interest record was surpassed several times.
In September, Rofex registered its third consecutive monthly record for traded volume and surpassed its open interest historical record in 6 occasions. Year-to-date, the volume traded is greater than that registered in 2006, and the open interest increased by 384.37%, which reflects an exponential growth of the Market.
Last Friday, the monthly volume closed with a total of 2.88 million contracts, an 85.94% increase from the same month of 2007. Meanwhile, the year-to-date traded volume amounted to 19.31 million contracts, widely surpassing the record set in 2006, when 18.23 million contracts were traded in the two divisions of the Market.
In relation to financial futures, during last month 2.85 million contracts were traded, setting a new record and registering a year-over-year growth of 85.53%. In the Agricultural Derivatives Division (DDA) 24,477 contracts were traded, up 149.13% from the same period last year.
